Driveway Construction

The specification for driveway construction is sometimes influenced by the usage and ground conditions, but generally a 150mm base of Type 1 limestone is used. This is one of the most important elements, providing the strength of the drive. A Terram geotextile membrane is also sometimes used where necessary. If block paviour are used, they are generally 50 - 60mm thick, bedded on a 50mm sharp sand bed. These are then retained with kerbs and drained into a 'Soakaway' or appropriate run off area. Shingle drives are then laid on top of the stone base to a standard depth of around 35 - 40mm.
